Summary:Among the newer information and communications technologies, a significant portion of journalists (20%) have adopted Twitter as a work tool. Twitter touts itself to be one of the most effective ways for information providers to establish direct contacts with their audiences. This is consistent with the precepts of participatory democracy and the mounting desire for greater equity between audiences and information providers. Through his analysis of the actual use of Twitter by Quebec journalists, however, the author finds that they still exercise or reproduce positions of authority vis-à-vis their audiences
