Description
Summary:Language as a phenomenon that reflects society's view of the world and cultural values is constantly developing. Each stage of language development is different and different stages have their own characteristic features. The observation of the present stage of living languages shows that languages are in the process of eupheminisation. The Russian language is no exception to this tendency. The article is devoted to an in-depth exploration of euphemisms in Russian language. The euphemisms, as a linguistic and literary device, are studied through the works of Sergey Dovlatov. The characteristic feature of Sergey Dovlatov's writing style, one of the most widely read authors of contemporary Russian literature, can be attributed to the democratic nature of the texts. The democratic content of Dovlatov's texts is achieved largely by the use of euphemisms. In this study, the euphemisms are analyzed from theoretical and functional perspectives.
