description The chorological division of southern Africa as proposed by White (1965, 1971) and Volk (1966) is discussed. Reference is made to distribution patterns of some typical Karoo-Namib taxa as discussed by Volk and to the remarkable distribution of disjunct taxa in the arid zones of Africa. On the basis thereof and of the similarity in the floras of the southern Kalahari and the Karoo-Namib Region, the conclusion is drawn that the chorological division as proposed by Volk (1966) seems justified.
