description Studying the ornithological morphology images of the traditional culture of different nations is one of the directions of modern ethnomusicology. In this article the author considers the image of the cuckoo in the Moldovan folklore tradition on the example of the analysis of a number of song texts. As material for research, were used the samples of song folklore, collected during field expedition work, presented in a comparative analysis of the poetic texts with the famous songs from the earlier published folklore collections (collections by Z. Tkaci, C. Rusnac, and A. Kriminsky). As a result, there is established the prevalence of motifs of loneliness, disorder of life connected with the image of this bird. The author sees this peculiarity classifying the cuckoo to a masculine gender (in the Romanian language), but not to woman’s (in the Russian language).
