description | This article delves into the concept of "Pluri-Arabism" within the context of modern Arab pop music, using Dubai as a metaphor for cultural diversity and examining its impact on the maintenance of regional Arab identities. It discusses the evolving landscape of Arab pop culture, which has seen a shift away from the Egyptian cultural dominance towards a more diverse representation of linguistic and cultural representations. Through case studies of artists like Assala Nasri and Balqees Fathi, the article explores how performers from various Arab regions are redefining cultural centers, challenging the traditional notion of Cairo as the sole hub of Arab music. Additionally, the role of satellite channels as well as digital platforms in reshaping the financing and dissemination of contemporary Arab pop culture is analyzed. Looking ahead, the article considers the potential future developments in the Arab music and media industries, particularly in light of Riyadh's efforts to establish itself as a cultural leader in the region. |
