description The article relies on marginal data of history from to reconstruct an ethnological problem: the cultural classification of some indigenous groups cited in the sources of the eighteenth century in the regions of the current Triângulo Mineiro e Alto Paranaíba. These remains collected from a vast documentation as indicatory paradigm teaches, reveal some mistakes and distortions in regional anthropology and history. From the recognition of homologies between these leftovers and signs from other domains, as the archaeology and ethnology, the article questions and relativizes the Tupi affiliation attributed to some groups mentioned in the sources.
