Description
Summary:The trials collected from the archives of Vicariato – civil and criminal court of Torino – allow to pursue different lines of research. First, by studying the judicial acts we can interprete court activity as a way to address a social request for justice, as testified by the amount of petitions from inhabitants. Second, another approach of research focuses on the history of the institution, analysed by the trials and the concrete activity of the court. This way we have been able to uncover some unknown aspects of the history of Vicariato. Finally, judicial acts provide many details on retail trade: by comparing those acts with other documents, such as legal documents (notary public acts), we can study the practice and the conditions under which trade was made.
