description Introduction: The objectives of this study were to assess the knowledge levels regarding human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) and to investigate discrimination against people living with HIV (PLWH) among residents. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional survey conducted with 115 residents working at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Hospital from July 2 to July 12, 2021. The questionnaire consisted of 30 questions aimed at assessing the participants’ demographic characteristics, knowledge levels, and attitudes towards HIV/AIDS. Correct answers to the knowledge questions were scored as “one”, incorrect answers and the answer of “no idea” were scored as “zero”. The answers given to bias questions were scored as 1-5, ranging from “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree”. The relationship between the total knowledge and bias scores was determined using the scatter plot and the Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Participants had sufficient knowledge that HIV/AIDS can be managed with treatment, that homosexual intercourse is not the only mode of transmission, and that HIV can be transmitted through uncontrolled blood transfusion and transplacental routes. They also understood that HIV is not transmitted through respiration or hugging-handshaking, and recognized the need for barrier methods to prevent sexual transmission (correct response rate >90%). Women and married individuals were more reluctant to operate on PLWH compared to men, and singles (p= 0.046; p= 0.049). Compared to clinicians, surgeons were more willing to discharge the PLWH immediately (p= 0.036). Married individuals were more reluctant to work with PLWH compared to singles (p= 0.034). As the level of knowledge increased, bias decreased. The relationship between the level of knowledge and bias was weak but statistically significant (r= -0.212; p= 0.023). Conclusion: One of the reasons for bias is the lack of information. HIV/AIDS awareness and education meetings should be integrated into the residency training process
