description The festivals held between 1954 and 1966 in Caracas, Montevideo, and Washington highlighted in their statements the Latin American or Inter-American character of their convocation. When paying attention to the repertoires, guests, organizers, and festivals' activities, these geographical categories get blurred since it is possible to find associations, links, and regularities that indicate both aesthetic trends and regional linkage strategies. The connections and associations resulting from the development of music festivals are investigated to detect the tensions between discourses, actions, and musical creations as indexes of aesthetic positioning. Through a sociological approach based on the Actor-Network Theory and historiographic tools, this article studies the relationships between interpersonal links, strategic interests, institutions, and musical works (as non-human actors). In doing so, it accounts for the alliances or interferences that made possible the sustenance or stimulation of the musical creation during those years. The conclusions reached (the interference of certain actors as fundamental mediators in some key controversies) are based on sources from repositories located in the United States, Uruguay, and Argentina.
