Description
Summary:In the distorting mirror. West-European dramaturgy in the Russian comedy of beginning of the 20th century. Motives and genres The present article constitutes the attempt of analysis of chosen examples of the Russian comedy of beginning of the 20th century and of its connections with West-European dramaturgy. In the comedy W. Giacyntow’s The Cruel baron there are connections from with medieval motives which were also in West-European dramaturgy. Significant transformations were noticed within the genre. This text is parody of the tragedy. It is showing in the distorting mirror three theatre facts: catharsis, the reform of the theatre and the principle of the tragedy structure. As a result we have received an interesting text as regards its composition and reference to beginnings of the classical tragedy.
