description Background: Older people experiencing social care (care homes/care at home/day services) should meet national activity guidelines. However a culture of sedentary behaviour exists and care home residents can spend 80-90% of time seated/lying down. Inactivity has a negative impact on people’s physical, social, emotional and mental health. This is a complex problem and causes include: lack of staff knowledge; fear of falling; culture; society’s view of older people. The Care Inspectorate (scrutiny/improvement body for social care and social work in Scotland) was commissioned by the Scottish Government to design and lead CAPA. CAPA worked with care staff to develop skills/confidence in listening to older people and supporting them to move more in ways that are meaningful to the person. The results showed statistically significant improvement in psychological and physiological measurements such as risks of falls lowered and anxiety levels decreased and qualitative data demonstrating how a personal outcomes approach enriched individual lives. Aims/objectives: Participants will be involved in an interactive and engaging workshop and leave with personal pledges/ideas. They will understand and have practiced how to have good conversations and involve people to support them to move more often and improve quality of life based on CAPA results. Format and timings: 5 minutes: Interaction/discussion. What physical activity means to participants. What does being active bring to your life? 15 Minutes: Presentation to include. Introduce CAPA programme Impact of beliefs and understanding about physical activity on older people What CAPA found when staff listened to what mattered to people? What staff and people achieved to change culture and environment to enable movement 3 CAPA principles: Organisational Culture/Community Connections/Physical  Activity Participation used to act on voices and choices of older people. 5 minutes: Movement session. Fun movement session (for all abilities) 10 minutes: Presentation to include: Introduction to a resource supporting good conversations with older people. Putting an improvement model into practice to promote movement using the Plan/Do/Study/Act approach. How CAPA promoted leadership at all levels and involved people in programme evaluation. 5 minutes: Movement session. ‘Movement sticks’ - a novel approach to promoting movement (for all abilities) 10 minutes: Interaction/discussion. ‘Partnership in integrated care’ using strategies to consider what can we do to listen to older people and support hem to live well by moving more every day 10 minutes:    Questions and comments Target Audience: Social care managers, primary care clinicians. Takeaways: Practical experience of how to have outcomes focused conversations using take away resource. How to involve local community/family/ experts/primary care/friends/all staff and work in an integrated way. Examples of how to do tests of change and support improvement. Practical experience of two movement ideas to take away Time to come up with innovative change ideas and personal pledges
