| description | This paper addresses issues relating to the feminine ideal sanctified in the Cariri region of Ceará in Brazil and how it influences feminine values through the education system lato sensu. It takes as main source the hagiographic writings related to St. Luzia Coelho, Barbalha - Ceará (1923 - 1952), and some historical considerations applicable during that period. Then, it studies and reflects on how resulting feminine ideals have been developed from that. We consider how the hagiography of female saints has influenced the values associated with idealized sainthood and feminine role models in Brazil. We also highlight the links between some Catholic-Christian values relating to morality, family, and education and how they have contributed to shaping modern-day feminine roles and sainthood. |
