| Summary: | The study of nasal morphology is of fundamental importance for a better understanding and planning of rhinoplasty. The objective of this study is to analyze the basic shape of the nose seen as an isolated structure, and especially in equilibrium with the patient's face. The existing patterns to do so are quite subjective, since the concept of beauty depends on several factors. The classic proportion measurements assist the surgeon with the conception and aesthetic view. When combined with an understanding of the anatomy and surgical technique they determine the final outcome of rhinoplasty. Thus, the concept of "optimal" nose must be applied on an individual basis, respecting classical anthropometry patterns, gender, ethnic-racial, cultural and psychosocial factors. Morphology is not limited only to the static aspect of the nose, but is directly related to personal dynamics, mimicry and personality of the patient. |
