description The subject under analysis is a trinity: types of ‘Russia’ stereotypes in the American journalistic discourse; patterns that contribute to the emergence of different stereotypes in the discourses of various time and types; linguistic methods and means of stereotypes representation in the American journalistic discourse. The purpose is to systematize various stereotypes about Russia and Russians in the form of a dictionary that would allow estimating how the producers and consumers of the American media view Russia. The methodological framework consists in the common methods (description, analysis and synthesis, classification), and particular methods (discourse analysis, conceptual modeling and framing). As a result, ‘Russia’ stereotypes dictionary structure and a layout of a dictionary entry are developed. It draws attention to the issues of the Russian national identity, establishes a positive image of Russia abroad, and removes the prevailing bias against the stereotype as a linguistic and mental phenomenon.
