Description
Summary:Scotland and Wales, which both had an appalling record of female representation when the devolution process started, now top the world league table with almost 40% women MSPs in Scotland and more than 50% women Assembly members in Wales. Such a revolution has been made possible by the adoption of positive action measures by some of the political parties. Yet, it would never have taken place without the mobilisation, in both countries, of women activists in the main equality groups and parties. For inside the devolution campaign, another campaign was led for many years: that for equal representation between men and women in the future Welsh Assembly and Scottish Parliament.
