description This article asks a relatively naïve question: how can we build a coherent corpus of video game critics to analyze their formal components? We first present some journalistic texts related to Super Castlevania IV (in printed specialized press and websites). The variety of texts we encountered on this game showcases the identification problem relative to video game criticism. To help us circumscribe video game criticism (in regard to the other journalistic texts), we did a review of academic texts. More specifically, we selected articles and books that study video game reviews, tests, or critics. After this review, we suggest a model which could help us define the frontiers of critics.
