Description
Summary:Departing from population of provinces by birth place, this study aims to depict the figure of inter provincial connectivity in Turkey. It analyses longitudinal change of this connectivity from 1990 to 2020 via deploying social network analysis method and its tools. The study reveals that inter provincial connectivity and number of linkages between the provincials have increased since 1990 to the recent. Despite the increasing of total connectivity in country level, it reveals that connectivity is spatially selective and geographically concentrated in favor of three largest metropolitan cities and especially Marmara region as well. Additionally, provinces called as regional centers have significant share in this increase. In the context of the study, interconnectivity of provinces is calculated in quantitative form and a new proximity index has been developed for Turkey’s regions. This index is supposed to be used in planning and all future studies focusing on role of geography and spatiality on social facts and processes.
