Summary: | A scrutinized examination of several folios from the Sacramentary of Millstatt (Carinthia, Austria) has revealed that the notation of this manuscript, too, makes use of the additional special neumatic signs denoting the position of the semitone. Similarly to other south-German neumatic manuscripts of the 12th and 13th century, whose notation shows a clear tendency to be more specific as for the exact intervals of the written melody, the semitone is signalled in the Sacramentary by episemas (attached to other signs), by tractuli (substituting puncta) and the oriscus. |
