| Summary: | The Board of Works and Woodlands (Junta de Obras y Bosques) reached its institutional maturity during the reign of Philip IV, when the royal patrimony began to be clearly defined, at the same time as the system of Royal Sites was consolidated. However, it was during the reign of Philip II, especially in the 1580s, when this institution in charge of the administration, management, conservation and guardianship of the royal forests and sites, in addition to having other legal, artistic or royal grace competencies, was consolidated, while the Royal Sites and forests were integrated into a territorial continuity of courtly order. In this context, the Journey of Portugal made it necessary to provide this institution with a more institutional imprint, since it was expected to last for a long time and it was necessary to respond to the administrative, economic and legal needs of these unique spaces, which would be reflected in the following years by the hand of Mateo Vázquez and Juan de Ibarra.
