| description | Previous research has made us realize that the father's role was not recognized or established in health institutions (Coelho, Bucher Maluschke & Barbosa, 2007). Thus, the current project was based on of case studies in which interactions of contemporary Brazilian families where analyzed according to a systemic perspective. The study compares concepts of the family's structure and dynamics of fathers living with their child's cancer (Group 1), and fathers of healthy children (Group 2). The ecological insertion approach was adopted as the theoretical bass for understanding as the father's positions. Studies have shown the ecological insertion as fundamental to research in complex contexts (Mendes et al., 2008; Paludo & Koller, 2004). The results show that fatherhood emerges as being deeply experience lived and shared, breaking the patriarchal model. Therefore, we conclude that the paternal inclusion is relevant in social institutions, especially in the health institutions. |
