description On 23 May, 2017, in Ciudad Universitaria de São Paulo, the Mexican sociologist, politician and diplomat, Beatriz Paredes, granted an interview to theem Journal of Revista de Estudios Brasileños. Conducted by Prof. Pedro Dallari, Director of the Institute for International Relations (IRI) of the University of São Paulo (USP), the interview allowed this notable social leader to reflect upon a wide variety of topics, which she did with great propriety. Until recently Mexico’s Ambassador to Brazil, Beatriz Paredes directed in 2017 the activities of the José Bonifacio Chair, devoted to Latin American Studies, at the behest of USP, her predecessor as Chair having been the Spanish statesman, Felipe González. In the interview she broaches her work at the University, which is focused on the coordination of the research group devoted to the history and current situation of the indigenous peoples of Latin America. However, going beyond the strictly academic topics, Beatriz Paredes responds to questions about the political situation in Latin America, about Mexico, Brazil and the current relations between them, as well as about the relations between Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula.
