Description
Summary:The text proposes that Vivir para contarla (2002), or Garcia Marquez’s memoirs, is a hybrid text, between essay writing and narrative techniques, between memory and reflection. The text sheds light on both, the strength of Garcia Marquez’s vocation as a writer as well as the insight-out of his fictional world. His journalist activity occupies an important part of his memoires during his formative years and it becomes pivotal in his identity as a novelist. Jacques Gilard’s research on García Márquez’s journalist practice deserves the highest acknowledgement. Gilard’s prologues to each volume constitute an authentic biography of GGM and provide an insightful analysis of his development as a fiction writer. Vivir para contarla offers interior and exterior landscapes filled with struggle, uncertainty, and nostalgia.
