Summary:Translation Studies have only recently begun to be considered as an independent discipline. Many questions remain unanswered. One which has not received much attention is that connected with the teaching of translation. The aim of this essay is to suggest some ideas concerning this issue, taking first into account the qualities of the translator, his social and cultural background, etc. The essay also considers the question of reading a text well and offers some suggestions for exploitation of this subject and others in the classroom.
