Cassirer’s position is interpreted in a constructivistic way: language is presented as a complex system of signs arbitrarily produced by the human mind to imbue the world with sense and meaning. Indeed, Cassirer’s theory is proposed as an ideal model for that part of the contemporary epistemology which agrees with the general principles of pluralism, but intends at the same time to stay away from sceptical, relativistic and subjectivistic temptations which are very popular in our time. |
