Summary:Public pedestrian spaces, their significance and sustainability in the structure of a modern city were explored and prerequisites for their modernization considered using as an example the section of Karl Marx Street from Lenin Square to the interchange with Leningradskaya Street in the city of Khabarovsk. Detailed analysis covered the zoning of the area under study and its retrospective. Pedestrian flows were observed at different times during a week. The quality of the urban environment was analyzed. The conclusions provide a comprehensive opinion on the object of study as a linear pedestrian space and the degree of its suitability and functionality.
