description Pierre-Jakez Hélias (1914-1995) published Le Cheval d'orgueil, his most famous work, in 1975. In it he describes both the personal and collective practices of rural life in Brittany during the period of his childhood. Although the author does not mention any Breton or French-speaking writers, he composes scenes in a very visual way. These are based on the use of terms that fall within the lexical field of sight, but also on several other techniques related to painting (spatial composition, colours, shapes, etc.) and finally on the reference to painters of Brittany or of rural life whose works the author most likely had in mind when he wrote.
