description This article will focus on a circulation that may be representative of the global turn: the exile in Italy of the Chilean group Inti-Illimani. Apart from their musical tour, the group was also in Italy for political reasons: to promote the government of Unidad Popular led by Salvador Allende. This motivation, however, will not be accomplished due to the coup d’état of Augusto Pinochet. Hence, what had begun as a few months' trip, suddenly became several years of exile in the European country. The musical militancy will be able to make close what was distant, informing Italy about what was happening in Chile, which contributed to the development of solidarity networks. The Italians, in turn, appropriated these songs as a way of expressing their desires and concerns, which influenced both Italian political and social activity, as well as the ways of making music. Based on a press exam and an analysis of the albums published by this group in the exile between 1973-1978 we will show how music can also connect different, but close, political realities – a testament to an increasingly interconnected world.
