The section on general characteristics provides general information about the territory, neighbors, political system, features of economic development, and the military posture. The section on the historical development focuses on the age of the Ottoman Empire, when Turkey was one of the most powerful empires in the world. The third section points out the geopolitical aspirations of the current political elite seeking to achieve strong political, economic and military influence on all nations in the region, especially the areas with Muslim population in the Balkans.
