| Summary: | This article studies two cases of technical diffusion: the origin and diffusion of stirrups in Eurasia and the diffusion of the Chinese postal system by the Mongols. These cases are linked to two major periods in the history of the Silk Roads, or Eurasian trade networks: the Islamic period and the Mongolian period, two periods that constitute, from the 8th to the 13th century, essential moments in the history of diffusion because of the establishment of new networks of economic exchange. In these networks, merchants and nomads have strongly contributed to the diffusion of all kinds of techniques on a very important scale. |
