Description
Summary:The reference to the myth of Kronos in the work of Plotinus occupies a place that is not easy to define. The myth is not regarded part of Plotinian metaphysics, although the relations of Kronos-Intellect with the One and the Soul constitute particularly sensitive points of the doctrine of Plotinus. This motf is, however, studied as an example of myth exegesis: surprising, because there is nothing further from the Hesiodic version of the theogonies. The analysis of the four fragments relating to the myth of Kronos indicates the reference to Plato as the first goal of Plotinian exegesis. Plotinus performs a strange "fragmentation" of the myth, separating characters and episodes, and then integrating them into the architecture of his treatises. This attitude results in very bold interpretations and conforms perfectly with Plotinus’ noetic, as well as with the philosophical culture of his time.
