Description
Summary:In the public documents of the city of Delphi as well as in the Amphictionic documents, two varieties of language are in competition: a local Dorian speech and the Ionian-attic koinè . The choices made between these two varieties by the different writers of the documents provide indications of an historical nature on their external relationships. While the city hardly varies in its linguistic usages, those of the Amphictiony reveal on the contrary a sensitiveness to the political movements of the time, in particular to the influence of the Etolians who controlled it in the III. c. B.C.
