Summary: | Background. The current situation with the spread of a new coronavirus infection
affected absolutely all spheres of society, and the sphere of higher education was no
exception. Students and teachers today are forced to work in a different format
unusual for themselves – in the conditions of a distance form of study. A rather serious
and sudden change in working conditions inevitably leads to difficulties, which
are manifested primarily in the process of communication between the teacher and
students. The purpose of the study is to study the violation of the communication
process when transferring educational material in a distance form of learning.
Materials and methods. The implementation of the tasks is achieved based on the
analysis of the results of an empirical study conducted by the authors in the form of
a questionnaire survey of the student community (n = 370). The analysis and synthesis
of scientific and journalistic literature on the topic of social communication in the
field of education was also carried out.
Results. A sociological study was conducted aimed at identifying the difficulties
that arise in students in the conditions of distance learning. This phenomenon is analyzed
both in terms of verbalized attitudes of respondents and the analysis of their
real behavior. As a result of the study, failures of the communication process were
identified and recommendations were made to eliminate them.
Conclusions. The study revealed that communication failures occur at all stages.
These trends correspond to the conditions for the sudden introduction of an unusual
training format. The proposed recommendations on the management of problems
arising in distance work (falling quality of educational material, non-acceptance by
students of some forms of remote classes, personal organizational problems) may be
of practical interest, both for university administration and ordinary teachers.
