Description
Summary:The purpose of this study is to light on the process of Amazigh identity promotion as a component of national identity in Algeria that results from a long struggle led by the different movements and organizations defending the language and Amazigh culture that conducted to the official recognition of the Amazigh identity by State through its formalization at Constitution. The study shows us the gradual adoption of the political authority instead of constitutional options to deal with the Amazigh issue, since its inclusion in 1996’s Constitution until its last amendment on 2016 which considers tamazight as a State official language. Also, it allowed us to deduce the benefits of the constitutionalization of Tamazight as a ground of the process of setting up of the State’s national identity as part of its constitutional constants: Islam; Arabity and Amazighness within the limits of constitutional framework which advantages the parliamentary approval over the referendum which remains the best way to fulfill the will of people and the implementation of amazigh dimension as a component of the State’s national identity.
