description For examining the effectiveness of households a nonparametric DEA method was applied. It enables to determine the effectiveness of objects at taking into consideration many inputs and many outputs. It does not require determining the functional relation between variables and granting them ranks. Eighty households with a large scale of the pigs production were examined. For construction of the DEA model, directed to the expenditure for changeable economies of scale, the following variables were accepted: out-puts – production of porkers in kg, inputs – costs of own and strange fodders, the costs of purchase of animals and veterinary services. Effective households technically constituted 46%. The majority of such households were in the Lublin voivodeship, and least in kujawsko-pomorskie. The highest average technical effectiveness characterised households in the Mazovian province where were the highest costs of purchase of fodders and animals.
