description After a reminder of the historical evolution of the Domain of Marly — its creation, splendour, followed by its inevitable decline until the renewed interest of the twentieth century – the article clarifies the current context of this royal domain that became national land. The complexity of the legal, national and administrative situation explains the delay of Marly’s conservation, restoration and development compared to other major lands owned by the state, such as Versailles and Fontainebleau. New perspectives have opened through its attachment, since 2009, to the public institution of Versailles, with the sole ambition of development and opening Marly to the public. The implementation of a master plan for policy and management, expected for many years, will be an indispensible tool in the new policy of heritage development.
