Summary: | This essay refers to the compositional process of the book El centro de la tierra (lectura e infancia), by Jorge Monteleone, published by Ampersand, Buenos Aires, as part of the collection Lector&s, directed by Graciela Batticuore. In this collection, writers, intellectuals and artists write and reflect, in an autobiographical tone, about their experience as readers. In this context, El centro de la tierra considers the literary and reflexive possibility of a return to childhood through both reading and autobiographical memory. This text reflects not only on the paradoxes and impossibilities posed by such a return, but also on the shortcuts and even the procedures (with fragments that either gloss or quote the original text) that writing can find when it creates this imaginary illusion and attempts, in the materiality of literary language, the invention of childhood as a mimesis of the return.
