description Сredit-modular system of education requires students and teachers to pay attention only to the most essential moments of theoretical and practical training, as a large percentage of the material is being learnt independently by the student. Practical skills training is an essential element of the future dentist`s training beacause it is necessary for a doctor`s practice. We recommend using stepwise formation of “mental actions and ideas” for automatic formation of practical skills. When using the existing system of preparation of students for learning and developing skills in dental surgery, low comprehensibility of the material by students is often marked. The main reason for this situation is the lack of pedagogically based methods which would allow to prove the formation of particular techniques to automatism. Our research has been devoted to developing methods of directed formation of practical knowledge and skills in dental surgery in the learning environments under credit-modular system. 60 fourth-year students were randomly selected and divided into two equal groups. Students of the 1st group (30 participants) were explained the importance of practical skills and then handed specified manipulation scheme. Students of the 2nd group (30 participants) were educated in a traditional way: the teacher was explaining the meaning of a manipulation, then was slowly showing it on a waxwork. We conducted comparison of mastering the practical skills and length of time teacher spent during developing sustainable automatic skills in students. The results showed that 98.0% of students had mastered a practical skill correctly from the first and only 34.3% of students of the second group developed an automatic sustainable skill. The technique is an effective means of directed formation of manual actions in students. Creating schemes of actions of a particular manipulation helps during practical lessons under credit-modular system.
