Summary:Thisstudypresentstheantimicrobialeffectofnaturalsurfacesecretesofsomecommonornamentalplantsleaves(Ficuselastica,PhilodendrombipinnatifidumandAglonema)againstsomepathogenicbacteria(Escherichiacoli,P.aeruginosaandStaph.Aureus),andfungi(MicrosporumgypseumandAspergillusflavus).Itwasconcludedthatalltestedwashingwateroftheplantsleavessecretesexhibitedvariousinhibitoryeffects,bothPhilodendrombipinnatifidumandAglonemacommutatumhadexhibitedmoreantibacterialactivitythanFicuselastica.WhilebothE.coliandP.aeruginosawerebeingmoresensitivethanStaph.aureus.Thesameinhibitoryeffectswereobservedwhentheplantsleavesinoculatedintheirsurfacewithpathogenicbacteria.Incontrasttobacterialinhibitoryeffects,thewashingwaterofnaturalsurfacesecretesoftestedornamentalplantsleavesinducedmyceliumgrowthofbothtestedfungi.MicrosporumgypseummyceliumgrowthinducedmorethanAspergillusflavusespeciallyincaseofthewashingwaterofFicuselasticthathavehighesteffectsat7.5/500mLofmedium.Thisstudyconcludedtheusesofornamentalplantsfortheindoorsandoutdoorstocontrolthegrowthofpathogenicmicrobesandproblemsassociatedwithhospital
