Summary: | The article deals with topical issues of publishing activities of the national libraries of the Baltic States. The cases of publishing activities of the Martinas MaћvidasNational Library of Lithuania, the National Library of Latvia, the National Library of Estonia, the peculiarities of publishing products in the process of meeting users’ information needs are considered. Emphasis is also placed on projects and prospects for the development of national libraries. The place of national libraries in the moderninfrastructure of library and bibliographic institutions is shown. In the course of the research it was found that these libraries conduct intense research activities, and its results are published in scientific journals, in the library’own one in particular. The research concerns the library system of states: their historical development, current state, history of the national library in terms of human development and technology, changes in the publishing system. It is noted that the study of public communication strategies and information policy is one of the newest areas approved by the Martinas Maћvidas National Library of Lithuania. It includes studies of information and communication strategies used by various stakeholders in times of tension and crisis, as well as studies of information policy and public communication in the context of civil or military conflicts (e.g. Belarusian crisis, geopolitical crisis, war in eastern Ukraine) and in the context of diplomatic negotiations on climate change. Much attention is also paid to maintaining the relevance of the heritage: the reconstruction and promotion of primary sources. Every year, Lithuanian libraries prepare a large number of valuable unpublished ancient manus cripts: memoirs, notes, letters, collections of letters, diaries, ethnographic collections and important documents found in the archives. A study of the history of the origin and editing of some publications are beingon. Numerous reports have been published on these issues. It is shown that an effective tool used by the National Library of Latvia to ensure optimal results of scientific and publishing activities, is the maximum implementation of the development strategy, in the long run the institution is tended to become a modern world-class library. It was found that the quality of publications is ensured by internatonal editorial boards, which include researchers from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and other countries, specialists in relevant fields, as well as anonymous reviewers.
