Summary:In 1617, Juan de Aguilar Villaquirán translated 45 of Lucian of Samosata’s essays. These translations represent, in 17th century Spain as well as in all of Europe, the largest collection of Lucian’s essays completed by a single translator. This manuscript work also contains in the final pages another unique translation in the Golden Age, the translation of Erasmus of Rotterdam’s Charon colloquium. This colloquium was not translated into Spanish again until the beginning of the twentieth century.
