Summary:The aim of this article is to present a critical reading of the bibliography regarding the social costs of the reform process in China in the last three decades, focusing on the conditions of migrant workers. First, we exam the Chinese household registration system and its consequences. Second, we present a comparison of labor conditions in China and Vietnam, and an analysis by Ching Kwan Lee on the different forms of workers’ resistance. Finally, we discuss the most recent trends related to working conditions in China.
