description The street view of Kosančićev venac is determined by the two semiologically distinctive and landmark buildings: the presented but rather neglected remains of the demolished National Library and the family home of scientist Mihailo Petrović - Mika Alas. As part of the broader urban reconstruction of Kosančićev venac, in the year marking one hundred and fifty years since the birth of scientist Mihailo Petrović, the conservation and restoration of his home has been finalized. In addition to a chronological, historiographical analysis of the house transformation, the article also deals with the conservation and restoration issues regarding the reconstruction of the damaged façade sculpture. Even though the family home had been designated as cultural property due to its historical values, expert literature more commonly examines and analyzes its specific style and architecture, characteristic of the Art Nouveau genre. Following a reflection on the historical development of the town area, the building's construction and the arguable details regarding the conservation and restoration of Mika Alas' home street facades, largely based on the reconstruction of damaged façade sculpture with the aim of restoring its architecture and stylistic values, the author presents conclusions regarding the justification and strategic approach in the revitalization of the city quarter. The works have been entirely financed from the budget allocated by the local government, hence raising the issue of examining the investors' approach to a public monument and the social connotation of their comportment.
