description | Common sites of breast cancer metastasis include the lungs, the central nervous system, liver, bones, soft tissue and adrenal glands. The colon is the rarest site of metastasis for the breast carcinoma. We here report the case of an 81-year-old woman who presented with a bowel obstruction related to a colonic metastasis of breast cancer occurring 15 years after a modifi ed radical mastectomy for right breast medullary carcinoma. She was immediately operated. During operation stiff fi brotic tissue in the level of obstruction on sigmoid colon and, subtotal colectomy was performed. Diagnosis was made by histopatologic examination. Postoperatively she was not eligible to receive adjuvant therapy because of additional diseases. At the follow-up, eleven months after, there is no evidence of recurrence or metastasis. To our knowledge, this is the fi rst case in the literature in whom sigmoid colon metastasis due to a medullary cancer of breast developed, although metastasis from other types of breast cancer to the colon is reported. |
