The first was an association of actors established by theatre artists who had been part of the underground during the Nazi occupation; the company was headed by Józef Klejer and Irena Ładosiówna and performed in the house of the Miejski Theatre in Lublin on Narutowicz Street. The second company was the Theatre of the First Polish Army, founded by Polish armed forces in the Soviet Union in 1943 for soldiers fighting the war alongside the Red Army.
