Description
Summary:This research aimed to study the possible impacts on soil due to the irrigation of coconut trees with treated wastewater. The study was conducted in a private area, in which the owner has irrigated the area with treated wastewater from a stabilization ponds system for more than 20 years. Samples of soil and irrigation water were collected. The effluent results were analyzed by the physical-chemical parameters: pH, chloride, calcium, magnesium, electrical conductivity and sodium adsorption ratio. The soil was analyzed by the parameters: pH, calcium, magnesium and exchangeable sodium percentage. The effluent was classified, in general, according to the restriction degree on irrigation, from slight to moderate. Related to the soil, all physical-chemical properties presented an increase due to the irrigation with wastewater, but they did not reach critic values to the crops. Therefore, the long-term impact on soil because of irrigation with treated wastewater was not evident, as well as the effect of the irrigation water seems not to compromise the coconut crop
