description The article below reviews two works, that of Rose [2019] and of McCleary and Barro [2019], published recently which focus on the same broad topic although from a different point of view: the relationship between culture and economic growth. The two works complement each other. Whereas Rose [2019] provides genuine economic arguments for his case about the importance of trust and trustworthiness, McCleary and Barro [2019] ask much more specific questions such as which religious beliefs contribute to economic growth and why a certain church behaved in a certain way in different – historical and modern – periods, and support their case with some econometrics.
