Description
Summary:After the transfer of the Portuguese court to Brazil (in 1808) there was an intensifying process of the presence of foreign goods (specially from England). This was due to the opening of the Brazilian ports. The increasing flow of ships from different continents to Rio de Janeiro’s port proved that it became a major commercial center connected to other previously banned territories. This paper aims to analyze the presence of trading in the city of Rio de Janeiro during the years the Portuguese court stayed in Brazil.
