Summary:In the context of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, we believe that teachers of Natural Sciences may include, in their classes, discussions related to the causes and consequences of the environmental crisis. The consumption is one of the issues that can be addressed, because it has a direct relationship with environmental problems. With this article, we emphasize the importance of integrating the consumption theme in teaching natural science and present possibilities for discussions regarding its contemporary features and their consequences, in order to contribute to the realization of the assumption of  sustainable consumption in our society
