description
Art stands before us as a phenomenon which has been much discussed from the point of meaning as well as function, but over which a unity of thought is still lacking. The problem in its philosophical setting is that art is not only a problem of knowledge, but it is also a problem of ontology and that ontological problems concerning art could not find a proper solution. Although such attempts cannot be frequently met with in the history of philosophy, some experimentations are quite important. This study is concerned with Arthur Schopenhauer’s views on art, which have a very significant place among attepts of this kind. His views on art are taken within the frame of his philosophy in general as well as the fundamental dynamics of philosophical thought.
