Summary:One of the key points of tsar Symeon’s political program was achieving au­tocephaly for the Bulgarian church and making its head a Patriarch. It is pos­sible that the archbishop of Bulgaria was proclaimed a Patriarch (913) without Byzantine consent, but the sources only allow for attempting to show that this matter was reflected in the peace treaty concluded after Symeon’s death (927) by Peter, his son.
